Mycenae, Greece. Elektra and Chrysothemis are the daughters of Queen Klytämnestra, who murdered her husband with the help of her lover Aegisth. Her daughters plan to take revenge but before they can do so, their brother Orest, who everyone believed was dead, returns. When he finds out what happened, he kills his mother and her lover. Elektra performs an intense triumphal dance and then drops dead.
This was the last work by the versatile film and play director Patrice Chéreau. Set in an unspecified period, the play focuses on the characters and the human aspect behind the tragedy of Elektra.
