The Model prison can now be visited and will be open to the public from 3 July to 26 November 2017. Visits are free, should be booked in advance and last roughly ninety minutes. The visit is intended to be a learning experience, providing a number of different insights, with groups following a set itinerary.
Visitors will be able to see some of the most iconic elements of the prison, such as the access yard, the security doors and access corridor, the panoptic viewing facility, the fourth wing (one of those which is true to the original project), the exercise yard belonging to the fourth wing, the communication parlour and the post room.
Visitors will also be able to see the exhibition ‘13 històries de la Model’ [13 stories from the Model], located in the fifth wing. The exhibition details 13 moments and 13 iconic people or groups in the prison’s history and their connection with the history of the city. Each one is associated with a fact and a themed context, for instance President Companys, Ferrer i Guàrdia, Puig Antich and El Vaquilla.
