Picasso Pablo (dit), Ruiz Picasso Pablo (1881-1973). Paris, musÈe national Picasso – Paris. MP189.‘Picasso’s Kitchen’ is the first exhibition to look at the constant presence of the kitchen in the life and works of Pablo Picasso. The display offers nearly 200 works from museums, institutions and private collections, offering a new perspective on the artist.
The exhibition is on at the Museu Picasso from 25 May to 30 September and offers a chance to discover the restaurants which helped shape Picasso’s career, such as Le Catalan, located near his workshop in Rue des Grands-Augustins; to see still life works such as those depicting the tomato plant growing in his studio or an eel stew made by Jacqueline, and to discover the iconography and culinary references in the artist’s poetical and theatrical writings. In short, to reflect on the kitchen as a metaphor of the creative act.
The chef Ferran Adrià is a collaborator with the display, establishing a dialogue between Picasso’s creative process and contemporary culinary creation.
